Product information

This is one of the most popular weeping cherries we grow on our Thurning ground, and for good reason. It offers a truly elegant shape, with branches that arch downwards, covered in a mass of single, rose-pink flowers each spring. The flowers open from darker red buds, providing colour from late winter onwards. New leaves emerge with a bronze tint, turning a solid dark green for summer.

A small tree, ‘Pendula Rubra’ typically reaches about 3 metres in height and spread, making it suitable for most spaces. It has an average growth rate and prefers a spot in full sun to get the best flower display and autumn colour. It’s a hardy soul and will manage in most well-drained soils, including chalk and clay.

Little regular pruning is needed, which is always a bonus. Simply remove any dead, damaged or crossing branches in summer to reduce the risk of disease. Its weeping habit makes it a wonderful specimen tree in a lawn, a courtyard, or a mixed border where its form can be appreciated.
