Product information
‘Paul’s Scarlet’ is one of the most ornamental hawthorns, a sport of ‘Rosea Flore Pleno’ found in 1858. Branches are smothered in fully double light-red flowers in May, a little earlier than most other hawthorns, followed by orange-red berries in autumn. Holds an RHS Award of Garden Merit.
Small rounded deciduous tree with thorny branches, lobed glossy leaves, and dense twiggy growth. Reaches around 6 to 8m tall and 4 to 5m wide over time.
Plant in any well-drained soil in full sun or partial shade. Tough and reliable in urban, coastal and exposed conditions. Minimal pruning.
A firm favourite for a small lawn, front garden, or as a characterful specimen in a mixed hedge.
