Product information
Lonicera x heckrottii ‘Gold Flame’ is a magnificent hybrid honeysuckle that stands out for its exceptional vigour and prolonged flowering season. We have found it to be one of the most reliable and rewarding climbers, producing an abundance of striking, trumpet-shaped flowers. Its rich, rosy-pink exteriors open to reveal glowing golden-yellow throats, creating a truly eye-catching display. The blooms are not only beautiful but also emit a lovely, sweet fragrance, especially noticeable on warm evenings, making it a firm favourite in our nursery and for our customers.
This adaptable honeysuckle thrives in full sun, which encourages the most prolific flowering, though it will tolerate partial shade. For best results, we recommend planting it in fertile, moist, and well-drained soil that is rich in organic matter. While it’s fairly tolerant of various conditions once established, good air circulation is beneficial to keep it healthy. ‘Gold Flame’ is hardy across much of the UK, generally performing well in USDA Zones 5-9.
To keep ‘Gold Flame’ looking its best, we advise pruning in late winter or early spring to remove any dead or weak growth and to help shape the plant. For more established specimens, a harder prune after the main flush of late summer flowers can encourage further branching and flowering. Its twining habit makes it perfect for training over pergolas, arbours, or fences, providing a superb vertical accent. The vibrant flowers are a magnet for pollinators, attracting bees, butterflies, and even hummingbirds, adding a lively buzz to your garden.
