pleached trees
Pleached trees are trained on a tall clear stem with a flat, framed canopy on top, creating a “hedge on stilts” that gives privacy at first-floor level without taking up the ground space of a full hedge. They’re ideal for screening in tight urban gardens or for adding architectural lines to a formal layout.
At Tandee & Van den Berk Nurseries Ltd, we supply pleached specimens grown by Van den Berk in the Netherlands. Most often Carpinus, Tilia, Photinia and Quercus ilex. Each tree comes already framed and trained, ready to plant and clip into shape.
Pleached trees prefer a sunny, open spot and need a light trim once a year to hold their form. Visit the nursery to see what’s in stock, and bring measurements; spacing matters with pleaching.
