Product information
‘Clapp’s Favourite’ is a classic American dessert pear from the mid-1800s, a cross of Flemish Beauty and Bartlett. Large round-to-pyriform fruits ripen yellow-green, flushed warm red on the sunny side, with smooth juicy white flesh of good sweet flavour.
Reliable cropper, fruits ripening in August, which is early for a pear. Best eaten soon after picking as they don’t keep long. Not self-fertile, so plant with a compatible pollination partner.
Plant in full sun in deep, moist but well-drained soil. Winter-prune for framework, summer-prune trained forms. Susceptible to fireblight in some areas.
A firm favourite for kitchen gardens, heritage orchards, and trained fan forms on sunny walls.
