Product information

‘Prunifolia’ is one of the best small ornamental hawthorns, with oval glossy dark green leaves (more like plum leaves than typical hawthorn) that turn brilliant scarlet, orange and crimson in autumn. Flat clusters of white flowers in May and June are followed by large shiny bright red berries that hold on through winter. Holds an RHS Award of Garden Merit.

Forms a small rounded tree with a dense wide-spreading crown, reaching around 6 to 8m tall and wide, with thorny branches. Tough and tolerant of pollution and poor soils.

Plant in any reasonable well-drained soil in full sun or partial shade. Minimal pruning.

A cracking small specimen for a lawn, a front garden, or a characterful street-side tree.
