Lilium asiatic ‘Matrix Golden’

This is a wonderfully compact Asiatic lily, one we like for its clear, bright colour. The upward-facing flowers are a vibrant golden-yellow, with some attractive darker speckles near the centre. It’s a dwarf variety, which means it won’t need any staking and is perfect for smaller gardens or bringing colour to a patio pot.

It has an upright habit, reaching about 40 to 50cm in height. The stems are clothed in narrow, glossy dark green leaves. For the best results, plant the bulbs in well-drained soil in a spot that gets full sun or partial shade. It will happily grow in chalk, loam or sand.

Asiatic lilies are very easy to look after. Simply allow the foliage to die back naturally after flowering; this feeds the bulb for next year’s display. We find they work brilliantly planted in groups in containers or tucked in at the front of a sunny border where their cheerful colour can really shine.
