‘Royalty’ is a purple-leaved crabapple with deeply coloured glossy purple-black foliage holding through summer. Deep red-purple single flowers cover the tree in late spring, followed by small dark reddish-purple fruits that persist into autumn.
Forms a small rounded tree, reaching around 5 to 6m tall and 4m wide. Autumn brings warm red-purple leaf tints before drop.
Plant in full sun in any reasonable well-drained soil for the strongest leaf colour. Minimal pruning, remove any crossing branches in winter.
A cracking specimen tree for a contrast against lighter foliage or a purple-themed scheme.
