Product information
‘Taihaku’ is the great white cherry, one of the finest Japanese flowering cherries, rediscovered in England by Captain Collingwood Ingram and reintroduced to Japan. Huge single pure white flowers, up to 6cm across (among the largest of any cherry), open in mid-April against bronze-red young leaves. Holds an RHS Award of Garden Merit.
Forms a vigorous spreading tree, reaching around 8 to 10m tall and wide, with a wide horizontal branch habit. Leaves mature to green in summer and turn warm yellow-orange in autumn.
Plant in full sun in well-drained soil. Prune only in midsummer, to avoid silver leaf.
A proper specimen tree for a big lawn, a parkland setting, or as a major focal point in a large garden.
