Product information

This exceptional clematis, part of Raymond Evison’s renowned Boulevard series, is a real star in our nursery. ‘Pompeii’ is celebrated for its abundant, large pastel pink flowers, each petal delicately traced with a deeper pink midrib and complemented by creamy white anthers. What truly sets it apart is its incredibly long flowering season, blanketing itself in blooms continuously from May right through to November. Unlike some of its more vigorous cousins, ‘Pompeii’ maintains a neat, compact habit, making it wonderfully manageable and perfectly suited for modern gardens and containers.

To ensure ‘Pompeii’ thrives, we recommend planting it in a spot that receives full sun to partial shade, ideally where its roots can be kept cool and shaded by other low-growing plants or a good layer of mulch. It prefers a moderately fertile, moist, and well-drained soil. When growing in pots, choose a large, well-insulated container to help keep the roots cool and prevent heat stress. This clematis is fully hardy in the UK, generally rated H4 to H6, meaning it will happily withstand typical winter conditions.

As a Group 3 clematis, ‘Pompeii’ is wonderfully straightforward to prune. In late winter or early spring (around February or March), we advise cutting all stems back hard to about 15-30cm (6-12 inches) from the ground, just above a strong pair of buds. This encourages a fresh flush of growth and ensures a spectacular display of flowers on the new season’s wood. Its compact nature and continuous flowering make it ideal for brightening up pergolas, small trellises, or scrambling through shrub roses, and it’s also a fantastic plant for attracting pollinators like bees and butterflies to your garden.
