Product information
Passiflora ‘Snow Queen’ is a standout hybrid, a real improvement on other white varieties with its impressive vigour and generosity of flower. We’ve been consistently impressed by its large, pristine white blooms, often up to 12cm across, which feature striking purple stigmas and white filaments, all set against a backdrop of lush, dark green foliage. Unlike some passion flowers, these fragrant blooms are long-lasting, staying open for several days and produced in continuous succession from late spring right through to autumn, often even longer in sheltered spots. It’s a truly captivating climber that quickly establishes, using its tendrils to create a dense, tropical-looking display.
For the best performance, we recommend planting ‘Snow Queen’ in a warm, sunny, and sheltered position, ideally against a south or west-facing wall. It thrives in moist, well-drained soil; good drainage is absolutely essential, so consider incorporating plenty of well-rotted manure or garden compost before planting. While it is hardy through much of the UK (H4), in colder regions or during severe winters, some protection such as a fleece or a thick mulch around the base will be beneficial, or consider growing it in a conservatory. Water deeply but infrequently once established, encouraging its roots to delve down for moisture.
Pruning is best carried out in late winter or early spring before new growth begins, as this is when the plant flowers. Focus on removing any dead, damaged, or weak stems, and then trim the remaining shoots to fit the available space, helping to maintain an attractive framework. This vigorous climber looks spectacular trained over pergolas, arches, or through an obelisk, where its stunning white flowers can be admired up close. It also pairs wonderfully with other climbers or shrubs, adding an exotic flair to cottage gardens, wall-side borders, or even Mediterranean-themed plantings.
