Product information
Phygelius, the Cape fuchsia, is one of the longest-flowering plants we grow, and the Colorburst series keeps it neat and bushy. ‘Deep Red’ carries airy sprays of pendent tubular flowers in a rich red, each lit by a yellow throat and set against near-black stems.
It forms a tidy mound around 50 to 60cm tall and wide, happy in a sunny border or a large container. Give it full sun or a little light shade and a well-drained soil. Once established it shrugs off dry spells and just keeps on flowering from early summer well into autumn.
Deadhead spent sprays to keep the show going. It is semi-evergreen and reasonably hardy, though in a cold winter it may die back. Simply cut it down in spring and it bounces back. Bees and other pollinators work it constantly.
