Rhododendrons

Rhododendrons are spring’s biggest show. The trusses of bloom appear in shades from soft pink and cream through to deep purple and fiery red, and the leathery evergreen foliage holds the structure year-round.

At Tandee & Van den Berk Nurseries Ltd, we stock a small but choice selection of rhododendrons and azaleas. Each is selected for healthy growth, strong flowering and resistance to the common problems that catch out less reliable stock.

Rhododendrons need acidic, moisture-retentive soil and a sheltered spot out of the harshest sun. They don’t get on with chalk; if your soil is alkaline, grow them in a large pot with ericaceous compost. Mulch yearly with leaf mould and they’ll keep flowering for decades. Visit the nursery in late spring to see them at their peak.
