Agapanthus ‘Best in Show’

A fairly new hybrid we’ve brought in, Agapanthus ‘Best in Show’ is a fantastic performer. It produces so many individual, trumpet-shaped flowers that they form a massive, tightly packed ball of pure white. The flower heads are held on sturdy stems, creating a really impressive display from mid-summer.

This plant forms a handsome clump of thick, strap-like leaves. It will reach about 75cm tall when in flower, with a spread of around 60cm. For the best results, plant it in a spot that gets full sun throughout the day. It prefers a moist but well-drained soil; good drainage is key to prevent the roots from sitting wet, especially in winter.

Once the flowers have faded, it’s good practice to cut the flowering stems back. ‘Best in Show’ is semi-evergreen, so its leaves may remain for much of the year. We recommend giving the crown a deep, dry mulch of bark chips or straw in the autumn to provide extra protection from winter cold. It’s a superb choice for pots or a mixed perennial border.
