Product information
‘Montgomery’ is one of the strongest-coloured astilbes. Dense, upright plumes in a rich deep red open in mid to late summer, held above a neat mound of bronze-tinted dark green divided foliage, giving good colour contrast even before the flowers open. Holds an RHS Award of Garden Merit.
Plants reach around 60cm in flower and form vigorous clumps over time. Useful both for fresh cut flowers and, once dried, for flower arrangements into winter.
Plant in moist, humus-rich soil in partial shade. These damp-loving perennials won’t thrive in dry ground, so pick a spot that stays moist through summer, like a woodland edge or pond-side border.
A firm favourite for a damp shady border, alongside hostas and ferns, or massed for late-summer colour in a woodland scheme.
