Allium hybrida ‘Bubble Bath’

A real favourite on our nursery benches. Allium ‘Bubble Bath’ produces a lovely display of soft, lavender-mauve flowerheads that look like bubbles floating above the foliage. Unlike many alliums, the blue-green, slightly twisted leaves stay looking good all season long, which we find makes it much easier to place in a border.

This is a well-behaved, clump-forming perennial that typically reaches about 60-70cm in height and a spread of around 60cm. It’s a reliable grower that prefers a spot in full sun with well-drained soil. It isn’t fussy about soil type, but good drainage is key, especially during our wetter winters.

For care, just remove the old flower stems and any faded foliage as needed to keep it looking tidy. It’s a brilliant choice for attracting bees and butterflies to the garden. We find it looks particularly good planted in drifts through a gravel garden or at the front of a sunny border.
