Phlox subulata ‘Scarlet Flame’

‘Scarlet Flame’ is an alpine phlox that lives up to its name. The low, needle-like evergreen foliage disappears under masses of brilliant scarlet-red flowers in mid to late spring, each with a darker red eye.

It stays very low, around 10 to 15cm tall, spreading to 60cm or so. Works beautifully spilling over a wall, through a rockery, or as a colourful groundcover at the front of a sunny border.

Full sun and well-drained soil. After the main flush, give it a light trim to keep the carpet dense. Evergreen foliage means it earns its place year-round.
