Product information
‘Red Jade’ is one of the most popular weeping crabapples, introduced from Brooklyn Botanic Garden in 1935. Pink buds open to masses of white flowers in late spring, followed by glossy bright red cherry-sized fruits that hang on the cascading branches from autumn right through winter.
Forms a small weeping tree grafted on a standard stem, reaching around 4 to 5m tall with pendulous branches reaching to the ground. Fresh green leaves turn yellow in autumn.
Plant in full sun in any reasonable well-drained soil. Minimal pruning, remove any upright shoots to maintain the weeping habit.
A firm favourite for a small front garden, a lawn specimen, or a container feature where the weeping form can cascade.
