Product information
This is a really handsome small pine that we’ve brought in for its lovely texture. The needles are very long, fine and soft to the touch, hanging slightly to create a graceful, feathery effect. They are a beautiful silvery blue-green colour that holds all year round. Even young plants produce an abundance of impressive, long, resinous cones that start a pale blue-green and age to brown.
Pinus ‘Wiethorst’ has a slow, compact and broadly conical growth habit. The RHS suggests an ultimate height of around 2.5 metres in 10-20 years. It is a hardy chap, happy in any well-drained soil. For the best needle colour, give it a spot in full sun.
It requires little to no pruning to keep its shape. Because it stays a manageable size, it’s a great choice for adding year-round structure and colour to smaller gardens. It also works very well in a large container on a patio or as a focal point in a rock garden or border.
