Product information
Prunus × yedoensis ‘Yoshino’ is the Yoshino cherry, the tree responsible for the cherry blossom festivals in Japan and Washington DC. Clouds of pale pink flowers open from pink buds on bare branches in late March and early April, fading to white as they age.
Forms a medium-sized spreading tree with an elegant horizontal branching habit, reaching around 8 to 10m tall and wide. Fresh green leaves follow the flowers and turn warm yellow, orange and red in autumn.
Plant in full sun in well-drained soil. Prune only in midsummer, to avoid silver leaf. Needs space to spread.
A proper specimen tree for a larger garden, a lawn centrepiece, or as part of an avenue planting.
