We’ve had a soft spot for ‘Happy Ruby Wedding’ on the nursery for years. It’s a proper celebration rose, producing masses of elegant, bright ruby-red flowers from scrolled buds right through summer and into autumn. The blooms have a light, sweet fragrance and stand up well on strong stems, making them great for a vase indoors.

This is a vigorous, upright bush rose, reaching about 90cm in height. It has lovely, glossy dark green foliage which provides a perfect backdrop for the rich red flowers. Plant it in a spot that gets full sun, in any fertile, moist but well-drained soil. It has good disease resistance, which is always a bonus.

To keep it flowering its heart out, give it a good feed with a rose fertiliser during the growing season. Prune in early March, cutting back the strongest stems to about four to six buds from the base and removing any dead or weak growth. It’s a wonderful choice for the middle of a border and grows very happily in a large pot.
