Rose ‘Mum in a Million’

We’ve kept this one on for years; it’s a really popular choice, and not just for the name. The flowers are a proper, classic rose shape, a lovely clear pink, and they have an exceptionally strong and beautiful fragrance. It’s a repeat flowerer, so you’ll get blooms right through from June to September, sometimes even longer.

This is a vigorous, bushy rose with an upright habit, reaching about a metre in height. The foliage is a healthy, glossy dark green which sets off the pink flowers nicely. It’s a hardy thing, happy in most well-drained soils, but give it a spot in full sun for the best flower show and scent.

To get the most from it, feed with a rose fertiliser in spring and again in mid-summer. Pruning is best done in late winter or early spring; we cut ours back by about a third on the Thurning ground to keep them in good shape. It’s a wonderful rose for the middle of a border and the flowers are great for cutting.
