Product information

Here at Tandee Nursery, we’ve long championed *Trachelospermum jasminoides*, and it’s easy to see why it’s a firm favourite with our customers, having also earned the prestigious RHS Award of Garden Merit. This vigorous, self-twining evergreen climber offers year-round beauty with its glossy, dark green foliage, which often takes on a lovely bronze-red hue in the colder months. But it’s in the warmer seasons that it truly shines, producing a profusion of beautifully scented, star-like white flowers that create an unforgettable sensory experience in any garden.

To ensure your Star Jasmine thrives, we recommend planting it in a fertile, well-drained soil that retains some moisture, avoiding any waterlogged conditions. It’s quite adaptable to various soil types, from sandy to loamy or even clay, and prefers a pH that is neutral to slightly acidic or alkaline. For the best flowering display and dense growth, a position in full sun to partial shade is ideal, ideally with shelter from cold, drying winds, particularly in exposed UK gardens. Once established, it shows good drought tolerance, but regular watering is beneficial during dry spells. It’s hardy in most of the UK, typically down to around -10°C, but young plants or those in containers may appreciate some winter protection in colder areas.

Pruning is generally light, simply to maintain its shape or control its spread, and we suggest doing this after its main flush of flowers, typically in late spring or early summer. This versatile plant is excellent for training against walls, fences, pergolas, or arches, creating a lush, fragrant backdrop. It also performs beautifully in large containers on patios or balconies, where its intoxicating scent can be fully appreciated. For a stunning combination, try pairing it with late-flowering clematis varieties to extend the floral interest, or allow it to scramble through a sturdy rose for an enchanting display.
