Viburnum opulus ‘Roseum’

This cultivar of guelder rose is prized for its distinctive flower heads. Rather than the flat lacecap blooms of the species, ‘Roseum’ bears dense, rounded clusters of sterile florets that open creamy white in late spring, gradually flushing pink as they mature. The effect is long-lasting and eye-catching.

‘Roseum’ grows as a vigorous, deciduous shrub reaching 3 to 4 metres tall and wide. It has a spreading, multi-stemmed habit and mid-green, maple-like foliage. The plant thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers moist, well-drained soil. It is hardy and tolerant of most garden conditions, including clay and slightly alkaline soils.

Minimal pruning is needed beyond removing dead or crossing stems after flowering. The plant works well as a standalone specimen, in mixed borders, or as part of a flowering hedge. It attracts pollinators during its bloom period and provides good structure through winter.
