Product information
‘Red Sentinel’ is one of the best crabapples for long-lasting winter fruit. Masses of white flowers in late spring are followed by small glossy deep-red fruits in late summer, which hang on the tree through autumn and well into winter, often past Christmas, providing a proper visual lift when the leaves are long gone. Holds an RHS Award of Garden Merit.
Upright to rounded small tree, reaching around 6 to 7m tall and 5m wide. Yellow autumn colour sets off the red fruits beautifully.
Plant in full sun in any reasonable well-drained soil. Good pollinator for other apples. Minimal pruning.
A firm favourite for a small garden specimen, a lawn feature, or a kitchen-garden edge where the winter fruits draw in birds.
