Acer griseum

The Paperbark Maple is a standout choice for its unique, paper-thin bark that peels away in translucent curls to reveal smooth orange wood beneath. Its trifoliate leaves are dark green through the summer, providing a delicate texture that contrasts well with broader-leaved trees in our collection. We have kept this on for years because it never fails to draw the eye.

This tree grows slowly into a neat, rounded shape, eventually reaching around 10 metres. It is happy in most well-drained soils and thrives in full sun or dappled shade. We find it particularly resilient once established, though it appreciates a spot sheltered from the strongest winds in our Thurning ground.
