Product information

A real favourite in our perennial tunnels, Alstroemeria ‘Indian Summer’ brings a touch of the exotic with its vibrant flowers. Each bloom is a mix of coppery-orange and gold, with dark burgundy streaks, held above handsome bronze foliage that keeps things interesting even before the flowers arrive. It flowers for months on end, from early summer right through to the first frosts, providing fantastic colour.

This is a vigorous, clump-forming perennial that will reach around 75cm in height. It establishes well in a sunny or lightly shaded spot, provided the soil is fertile and well-drained. It doesn’t like to be waterlogged, but does appreciate consistent moisture to keep the flowers coming. Once settled, it will gradually spread to form a satisfying clump.

To get the best from it, give young plants a deep, dry mulch over their first winter to protect the roots. A key tip for encouraging more flowers is to pull the spent stems from the base with a gentle tug, rather than cutting them. It’s a superb choice for filling gaps in a border and makes an excellent, long-lasting cut flower.
