Clematis Boulevard Yuan

Clematis Boulevard ‘Yuan’ is a delightful deciduous climber from the renowned Boulevard series, specifically bred to produce flowers along the entire length of its stems. This means you’ll be treated to a continuous display of exquisite blooms from late spring right through to late autumn. We’ve observed its compact yet vigorous habit makes it incredibly versatile, providing an oasis of colour even in its first year, far outlasting many other clematis varieties with its impressive five-month flowering season.

For the best performance, we recommend planting ‘Yuan’ in a moisture-retentive, well-drained soil, ideally enriched with compost. It thrives in full sun to partial shade, though we always suggest keeping the roots cool and shaded – perhaps with a layer of pebbles or by planting some smaller perennials around its base. It’s reliably hardy across most of the UK, typically to H5 (-15°C to -10°C), making it a robust choice for many gardens.

As a Group 3 clematis, ‘Yuan’ is wonderfully easy to care for when it comes to pruning; we simply advise a hard prune in late winter or early spring, cutting all stems back to about 20-30cm from the ground to encourage a flush of new flowering growth. Its delicate pink blooms, each with a deeper pink central bar and contrasting red stamens, bring elegance to city and courtyard gardens, and it looks superb cascading from containers, hanging baskets, or climbing up trellises and obelisks.
