Product information
Cotinus coggygria ‘Royal Purple’ catches the eye with its rich, purple-red foliage from spring through autumn. The leaves hold their colour well in sun. Hazy, smoke-like plumes appear in summer, adding texture above the foliage.
This deciduous shrub grows to 4-5m tall and wide with a rounded habit. It prefers full sun and fertile, well-drained soil. From our Thurning ground, we grow it on free-draining borders. It copes with chalky soils too.
Prune hard in spring for denser growth and better colour. Suits mixed borders or as a standalone feature. Keep it mulched in dry spells. We’ve kept this on for years in our shrub beds.
