Product information
‘Crispa Cristata’ is a double-curiosity form of our native male fern, with both crisped (wavy-edged) pinnules and crested (fan-shaped) tips on each pinna and at the top of each frond. The overall effect is a properly fancy Victorian pteridomania fern, architectural and unusual.
Plants reach around 60 to 75cm tall, forming a neat upright shuttlecock with golden-scaled new fronds in spring, maturing to rich green through summer.
Plant in moist, humus-rich soil in partial to full shade. Reliable and long-lived. Trim tired fronds in late winter before new growth.
A firm favourite for a shady woodland border, a damp ferny corner, or alongside hostas and hellebores.
