Product information
‘Seiryu’ is a brilliant Japanese maple, unusual for being an upright-growing form of the dissected-leaf group (most dissectums are weeping). Finely cut, almost lace-like leaves are fresh green through spring and summer, then burn to brilliant shades of red, orange and yellow in autumn.
It forms a rounded, slightly upright small tree to around 3 to 4m, holding its shape without staking. Takes full sun better than many Japanese maples, though it still appreciates shelter from harsh afternoon sun and cold drying winds.
Plant in moist, well-drained, slightly acidic soil in sun or partial shade. Minimal pruning, and only in late summer to avoid sap bleed.
A proper specimen tree for a smaller garden, a Japanese-style scheme, or anywhere a graceful small tree is needed.
