Product information

We’ve been really taken with this Photinia on our Thurning ground. ‘Magical Volcano’ lives up to its name, with new growth that emerges a brilliant, fiery red against the older, dark green leaves. The leaves have noticeably serrated edges which adds to the texture. In late spring, you may get clusters of small, creamy-white flowers.

This is a dense, bushy evergreen that typically reaches about 2.5 to 4 metres high, with a spread of around 1.5 to 2.5 metres. It has a vigorous growth rate. It’s quite adaptable, happy in most fertile, well-drained soils and will grow well in full sun or partial shade, although the new red growth is most intense in a sunnier spot.

It doesn’t require much pruning, but a light trim after flowering encourages a fresh flush of that vibrant red foliage. It’s a fantastic choice for adding structure and year-round colour to the garden, working especially well as a hedge or screen, or as a focal point in a border.
