Product information
‘Whipcord’ is a really distinctive dwarf form of western red cedar, with thin cord-like foliage that hangs down from branchlets that rise upward fountain-like from the centre. The effect is unlike any other conifer, a proper talking point in the garden. Holds an RHS Award of Garden Merit.
Slow-growing and shrubby, reaching around 60cm tall and 90cm wide in 10 years, eventually up to 1.5m tall and wide. Glossy green in summer, often taking bronze tones in winter.
Plant in moist, fertile, well-drained soil in full sun or partial shade. Happiest in cool summer climates. Minimal pruning needed.
A cracking specimen for a rock garden, a large container, a Japanese-style scheme, or a quirky accent in a mixed border.
