Product information

We choose a good mix for our customers from the hardy ferns we grow on our Thurning ground. They are fantastic foliage plants, prized for their architectural leaves that unfurl in spring. This collection includes a variety of forms and textures, with both evergreen and deciduous types for year-round interest.

Most ferns form a classic shuttlecock shape and will reach between 0.5 and 1 metre in height. They are happiest in partial or even full shade, where other plants might struggle. For best results, plant them in moist but well-drained soil; adding some garden compost when planting is a good idea.

Ferns are wonderfully low-maintenance. The main job is to snip away any dead or damaged fronds to keep them looking tidy. For deciduous types, this is best done before the new growth appears in spring. They are perfect for those tricky, shady spots under trees or for softening the edges of a woodland path.
