Product information
‘James Grieve’ is a famous Scottish apple raised in Edinburgh in the 1880s, prized as a reliable dual-purpose variety. Medium-large fruits ripen yellow streaked with red, crisp juicy white flesh and a pleasant sweet-sharp flavour. Good eaten fresh in early September and equally useful for cooking.
Heavy cropper, partially self-fertile. A good pollinator for many other varieties and widely used as a reference tree in pollination charts. Pretty pink-white blossom in April.
Plant in full sun in fertile, well-drained soil. Winter-prune for framework.
A proper heritage choice for kitchen gardens, family orchards, and trained espalier forms.
