Product information

A classic English peach, ‘Peregrine’ has been a favourite since it was introduced back in 1906, and for good reason. It’s one of the most reliable varieties for the UK climate, producing a heavy crop of fruits with a lovely crimson flush over light green skin. The spring blossom is a real feature, with deep pink flowers that stand out.

This is a deciduous tree with a bushy, spreading habit. It will reach an ultimate height of around 4 metres, taking between 5 and 10 years to get there. ‘Peregrine’ needs a spot in full sun, sheltered from strong winds and late frosts which can damage the early flowers. It prefers a fertile, moist but well-drained soil and will grow in chalk, loam or sand.

We find it does best fan-trained against a south or west-facing wall, which gives it the warmth it needs to ripen the fruit. Pruning should be done in summer after you’ve harvested the fruit to reduce the risk of disease. Keep an eye on watering, especially in dry spells, as the soil at the base of a wall can dry out quickly.

Pruning
Prune in summer after fruiting has finished. This helps to reduce the risk of diseases like silver leaf. Aim to cut back stems that have fruited to a new shoot, and tie in the new growth as a replacement.
Seasonal Spring
Deep pink flowers emerge, followed by fresh green foliage.
Seasonal Summer
Green leaves fill out the tree, and the fruits develop, ripening to a crimson and green colour in late summer.
Seasonal Autumn
The leaves turn orange-red before falling. Fruits are ready for harvest in August and early September.
Seasonal Winter
The tree is bare, showing its branch structure.
Fruit Description
A reliable and heavy crop of medium-sized, white-fleshed peaches. The fruits have a crimson flush over a light green or white skin and a rich, sweet flavour. It is a freestone variety, meaning the flesh comes away easily from the stone.
