Product information
We’ve grown ‘Marjorie’s Seedling’ for years on our Thurning ground; it’s one of the most dependable plums you can have. The white blossom appears later than most, which helps it avoid late spring frosts. This leads to a heavy and reliable crop of large, purple-blue plums from September, often hanging on the tree until the first frosts.
This is a vigorous tree with an upright habit, reaching about 4 metres in height. It will do best in a sunny, sheltered spot in most well-drained soils. It’s fully hardy and has good disease resistance, making it a low-maintenance choice for the home garden. It is self-fertile, so you don’t need another plum nearby for it to produce fruit.
For the best flavour, let the fruits ripen fully on the tree; they become much sweeter. Pruning should be done in summer, after fruiting, to reduce the risk of diseases like silver leaf. Aim to create an open, goblet shape by removing any damaged or crossing branches. It’s a great tree for a lawn, a kitchen garden, or a small orchard space.
