Product information
‘Summerred’ is a bright early apple raised in British Columbia, Canada, in the 1960s. Medium fruits ripen a striking solid red, with crisp juicy cream-white flesh and a pleasant sweet slightly tart flavour. Fruits ripen in mid August, bridging the gap between very early varieties and the main autumn apples.
Heavy cropper, productive from a young age. Not self-fertile, so plant with a compatible pollination partner. Fruits don’t keep long, so eat soon after picking.
Plant in full sun in fertile, well-drained soil. Winter-prune for framework.
A firm favourite for family kitchen gardens and orchards where summer apples are wanted.
