Product information

This is a really reliable, slow-growing pine that we’ve kept on at the nursery for its neat habit. It forms a lovely, dense, flattened dome of dark green needles that provide colour and structure whatever the season. It’s a tough plant, fully hardy in the UK and happy in windy or coastal spots once it’s established.

Over ten years, you can expect it to form a head of about 60-90cm. It’s not fussy about soil type, as long as it’s well-drained and doesn’t get waterlogged. For the best dense shape and colour, give it a home in full sun.

It needs very little looking after and naturally keeps its tidy, rounded shape without any pruning. If you do want to shape it, the best time is in late spring by trimming the new growth, often called ‘candles’. It’s a great choice for adding a bit of formal structure to a patio pot, a rock garden, or a mixed border.
