Physostegia virginiana ‘Crystal Peak White’

‘Crystal Peak White’ is a modern dwarf obedient plant, bred for earlier flowering and more compact habit than the traditional forms. Dense upright spikes carry two-lipped pure white tubular flowers from midsummer into early autumn, held above fresh dark green foliage.

The flowers sit in vertical columns and, when pushed, stay where they’re moved (hence ‘obedient plant’). Plants reach around 40 to 50cm tall, a proper dwarf compared to the tall old types.

Plant in moderately fertile, moist but well-drained soil in full sun or partial shade. Less invasive than older forms but can still spread, so keep an eye on clumps. Divide every few years.

A firm favourite for front-of-border planting, cut flower patches, and cottage-garden schemes.
