Product information

We’ve grown ‘Golden Pearmain’ on our Thurning ground for years; it’s a classic for a reason. This is a very old English variety, going right back to the late 1700s. The apples have a strong, rich and fruity taste with plenty of sweetness, making them a superb dessert apple to eat straight from the tree. They also make a fine cider.

This is a tree with a moderate growth rate. Depending on the rootstock chosen, it can be kept to a garden-sized tree of around 4 metres or grown on to a traditional orchard standard of 6 metres. It thrives in a sunny, sheltered spot in most well-drained soils. Like most apples, it needs a pollination partner from the same group (B/2) to produce a good crop.

For care, it’s a spur-bearer, so prune in winter to maintain an open shape and encourage fruiting spurs. Keep the area around the base of the trunk clear of weeds and grass. It’s a great pick for anyone wanting a heritage apple with fantastic flavour for their garden.
