Product information
Pteris nipponica is a refined little fern with finely divided fronds marked with a central silver-white stripe along each pinnule. The stripe catches the light beautifully in a shaded corner, giving a ferny effect that’s quieter than many variegated plants.
It stays compact, around 30 to 40cm tall, forming a tidy clump that spreads slowly. Evergreen in mild spots, deciduous or semi-evergreen in colder areas.
Plant in moist, humus-rich, well-drained soil in partial to full shade, sheltered from cold winds. Perfect in a shaded container, a woodland edge, or tucked among hostas and hellebores where the silver stripe can shine.
A lovely companion plant for a shady border or a terracotta pot in dappled shade.
