Clematis ‘Pink Fantasy’

Clematis ‘Pink Fantasy’ is a superb large-flowered deciduous climber, celebrated for its prolific display of delicate yet striking blooms. Each flower is a beautiful shell-pink, artfully marked with a deeper central stripe and complemented by dusky reddish-pink anthers. This variety is incredibly generous with its flowers, providing a consistent show from early summer right through to early autumn. To ensure ‘Pink Fantasy’ thrives, we recommend planting it in a moisture-retentive, well-drained, and fertile soil. It performs best in a position ranging from full sun to partial shade, with the crucial detail that its roots and base should be kept cool and shaded. This can be easily achieved by underplanting with a low-growing perennial or simply by adding a layer of pebbles or mulch around the base. It’s a hardy variety, well-suited to most UK climates (H6), and appreciates consistent moisture, particularly during its establishment period and dry spells.

As a Group 3 clematis, ‘Pink Fantasy’ is wonderfully straightforward to prune. We advise a hard prune in late winter or early spring, cutting back all stems to a strong pair of buds approximately 15-30cm (6-12 inches) above ground level before new growth begins. This encourages a flush of new stems and abundant flowering on the current season’s growth. Its elegant blooms are perfect for training up obelisks, fences, or through established shrubs, adding a romantic touch to any garden. It’s also an excellent choice for patio pots, bringing its gentle colouring and long flowering season right to your doorstep.
