Product information
‘Mariken’ is a dwarf form of ginkgo discovered as a mutation in Holland in 1995. A slow-growing semi-pendulous selection, often grafted high on an understock to show off the distinctive rounded crown of fan-shaped leaves.
Reaches just 60 to 90cm tall and wide, growing a mere 5cm a year, so a specimen stays in scale for years. Deciduous, with the classic fan-shaped leaves turning a glowing golden-yellow in autumn, one of the most dramatic autumn displays of any small tree.
Plant in well-drained soil in full sun to partial shade. Virtually pest-free, drought-tolerant once established, and resilient in urban conditions. Male plants so no messy seeds.
A proper feature for a rockery, a Japanese-style garden, a large container, or bonsai training.
